All Cornell Physicians are committed to delivering outstanding medical care with compassion and concern for each patient-even beyond demise. The autopsy, or post-mortem examination, is performed by the pathologists on the Autopsy Service only when requested by the family of the deceased. The treating physician can answer questions regarding the procedure and assists the family in signing the autopsy request/authorization document. The family is given the opportunity to state special requests which will be respected in full by the pathologists performing the autopsy.
