Founded in 1976, the Willam Randolph Hearst Burn Center was the first full-service burn center in the New York area, and is now the largest center of its kind in the world. The Center has a close and unique relationship with the New York City Fire Department, and is a national leader in treating patients with burn injuries. The 40-bed unit also includes a state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen chamber, as well as the only comprehensive skin bank in New York State, which is a national resource for all victims of burn injury. We also work closely with the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation to educate the public on fire hazards and prevention. In addition to the most sophisticated treatment and technology currently available, our highly coordinated multidisciplinary team offers comprehensive treatment for the three phases of burn-injury care: burn shock, wound care/surgery, and rehabilitative/reconstructive. The Center?s mission of providing the highest level of medical care and highest standards of clinical and therapeutic excellence has established our reputation for being one of the most caring and dedicated centers in the world - in fact, every year the Center is trusted with the treatment of more than 1,000 children.

Since our beginning, we have also had a special relationship with the New York City Fire Department. We are honored to be the burn center most relied upon by the city's firefighters, many of whom played a major role in the development of our program in 1976. In addition to the most sophisticated treatment and technology currently available, we offer the expertise of a highly coordinated team, staffed with surgeons, therapists, dietitians, nurses and social workers. Together, our multidisciplinary team offers comprehensive treatment for the three phases of burn-injury care: burn shock, wound care/surgery, and rehabilitative/reconstructive.
