Dr. Anthony J Tortolani, Chairman of the Departments of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Surgery at New York Methodist Hospital, is a leading cardiothoracic surgeon with extensive practice in the surgical treatment of diseases affecting the heart and chest cavity including coronary bypass surgery and valvular heart surgery. He is the Professor of Clinical Cardiothoracic Surgery and Professor of Clinical Surgery at The New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

A graduate of George Washington University School of Medicine, he
completed a general surgery residency at North Shore University Hospital and served in the United States Air Force as a Major. He completed a Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship at New York University Medical Center. He is an attending physician at New York Methodist Hospital and The New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

Dr. Tortolani has been active in Cardiothoracic Research and surgical education for over 20 years and has published extensively in medical journals since 1966. Additionally, he has been the principal investigator of clinical evaluations of several grants from the National Institute of Health, Heart and Vascular Diseases Division and The Association for Surgical Education. He is past President of the New York Society of Thoracic Surgery, is presently a Governor of the American College of Surgeons and serves on the New York City Board of Directors, American Heart Association.

Dr. Tortolani has received certificates of recognition on "How to Find
the Best Doctors: New York Metro Area" from 1997 through 2006, and he appeared in the New York Magazine's June 5, 2000 issue, "The Best Doctors in New York - Thoracic Surgery." Additionally, he has been recognized in "Top Doctors: New York Metro Area", Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. 1994-2006, and "Guide to Americas Top Physicians", Consumers' Research Council of America, 2002-2007.

Dr. Tortolani resides with his wife Katherine in Manhattan and also maintains a residence in Cape Cod and Maryland. He has two children, Julia Sue Tortolani and Paul Justin Tortolani, M.D.
