Throughout his training, Dr Kelly has maintained an active interest in clinical and basic science research of the shoulder, hip and knee. He has received numerous awards for both outstanding research and teaching including: Orthopaedic Research Society New Investigator Recognition Award (NIRA), Charles S. Neer Award (American Shoulder and Elbow Society), Philip D. Wilson Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery Research, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Young Investigator?s Award, Jean C. McDaniel Resident Teaching Award, and the Lewis Clark Wagner Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery Research. He has received significant grant funding from agencies including the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation, the Aircast Foundation, and the National Football League. He is currently investigating non-arthritic hip pain in athletes, and working on the use of novel biomaterials for synthetic meniscal replacement in the knee. He is the author of numerous scientific publications, chapters, and review articles.
