Dr. Starr's research is primarily clinical in the areas of cornea, cataract and anterior segment ocular disorders. Additional research interests are in innovative ocular surgery, instrumentation and pharmaceuticals.

His current studies include the following:

- Clinical Trial of a novel lubricant drop (Blink Tears, AMO) and the treatment of post-LASIK dry eye

- Clinical Trial of a novel lubricant drop (Blink Tears, AMO) and the treatment of contact lens related dry eye

- Clinical trials and development of a novel ocular analgesic drop

- Clinical trial to assess corneal sensation and dry eye following cataract surgery

- Several ongoing studies with novel imaging modalities (Artemis 2 High Frequency Ultrasound) and measurement of corneal thickness

- Clinical trial utilizing the new RPS Adenodetector to determine the length of viral conjunctivitis (EKC) contagiousness

- Trial assessing the role of topical cyclosporin (Restasis) in the treatment of Stevens Johnson Syndrome

- The microbiologic spectrum of bacterial conjunctivitis in neonatal intensive care patients

- Salzmann's nodular degeneration following LASIK surgery

- The role of nocturnal ocular pressure and the pathogenesis of normal tension glaucoma
