Elizabeta Popa M.D. was appointed to the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Assistant Attending Physician in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology in July 2007. She has joined the Gastrointestinal Oncology program within the Solid Tumor Service in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology.
Dr. Popa has had all her professional training at academic centers in New York City, including specialty training in Medical Oncology and Hematology at New York University. Since finishing her training in 2005, she has pursued an academic professional career, serving as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine from 2005-2007.
In addition to treating the wide spectrum of gastrointestinal cancers,
Dr. Popa specializes in hepatobiliary tumors and will lead development of clinical trials in this area. She is particularly focusing on innovative treatments in the areas of tumor vascular biology and targeted therapies. She also has a special interest in head and neck malignancies and collaborates actively with the Otolaryngology Department, working in the development of the Head and Neck Cancer program.
She speaks several languages including French, Italian, Spanish and Romanian and has experience with the international and diplomatic communities in New York City. Dr. Popa also has experience as teaching attending to medical residents and hematology/oncology fellows and will continue to be involved in training future generations as part of our Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program.
