About HIPAA

In 1996 Congress passed the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ("HIPAA"). Part of this law addresses the privacy of a patient's health information and is referred to as The Privacy Rule. The Privacy Rule became effective on April 14, 2003.

If you want more information, go to our Notice of Privacy Practices, which tells you how Weill Cornell Medical College will use the health information it has about you.
