HARVEY ALLEN LINCOFF, M.D.
Professor of Ophthalmology
and Newhouse Clinical Scholar

Dr. Lincoff is an internationally recognized specialist in retinal diseases, and a research scientist. He received his BA from Harvard College and his M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. After a residency at Bellevue Hospital in New York, he divided the prestigious HEED Fellowship between the Wilmer Institute and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. In 1961 he joined the faculty of The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Lincoff is a pioneer in the development of the modern treatment of retinal detachment. Noteworthy, are his development of cryopexy, a freezing technique to secure the retina, the soft silicone sponge buckle, the scleral balloon (both of which bear his name) and the use of perfluorocarbon gases for an internal tamponade. He continues to improve the retinal detachment operation to diminish the surgical complications. An expert on retinoschisis, he defined its presence in optic pit maculopathy and proliferative diabetic retinopathy. He is an invited lecturer worldwide and has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr. Lincoff continues to combine his research with a clinical practice at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. He is currently engaged in a clinical trial of a method to displace subretinal hemorrhage in age related macular degeneration. He is available for patient consultation by appointment, 646-962-6600.
