Dr. Lefkowitz received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1983. Subsequently, he completed an internal medicine internship and residency in Pathology at the University of Louisville. He served as Chief Resident during his final year of pathology residency training. Dr. Lefkowitz was certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology in November, 1988. Subsequently, he completed a three year fellowship in hematology, focusing on coagulation, at the University of North Carolina. Coagulation testing is one of the most esoteric areas of clinical laboratory testing. Dr. Lefkowitz represents the extremely small minority who are trained in internal medicine and hematology and are also certified in Laboratory Medicine by the American Board of Pathology. In essence, Dr. Lefkowitz completed both residencies, thus placing him at the unique vantage point of knowing how to administer a laboratory, direct a coagulation service, and interpret the results of such testing in support of patient management and therapy.
