 (212) 746-2646  (212) 746-0701

Dr. Harpel graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the New York University School of Medicine through the National Institutes of Health sponsored Medical Scientist Training Program. His thesis research involved the activation pathways of a potent cell regulator (transforming growth factor-beta) in estrogen deprived human breast cancer cell lines. After completing his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Campus, Dr. Harpel remained for a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology.

Pursuing a long standing interest in the role of the immune system in controlling malignancy and autoimmune disease, Dr. Harpel joined the Bone Marrow and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Program as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. He is especially interested in translational research studies aimed at improving the safety and outcome of stem cell transplantation.
