CARDIAC MICROVASCULAR COMMUNICATION

The aim of our research is to define the molecular and cellular events underlying the age-associated mechanistic impairment in cardiac vascular function. Our basic focus is on the alterations in growth factor pathways that lead to the senescent shift is cardioprotective pathways. These studies are directed at the development of strategies specifically tailored for the restoration of cardiac function in experimental model systems, with the goal of translating these findings as approaches for the treatment and possible prevention of cardiovascular disease in older persons. To date, we have developed novel growth and stem cell-based approaches to promote cardioprotection and are actively engaged in research to improve the efficacy and accessibility of these strategies as a basis for future clinical therapies.
