Dr. Akhtar graduated from King Edward Medical College Lahore Pakistan in 1964. He underwent pathology residency training at the Hospital for Joint Diseases and Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, PA (1968-1972). He acquired his Amerian Board of Pathology certification in 1972. Dr. Akhtar joined Weill Cornell in June 2004. Prior to that he was the Chairman and Distinguished Senior Consultant in the Department of Pathology at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh Saudi Arabia. He was also Editor-in-Chief of Annals of Saudi Araia fron 1991-2003. His areas of interest include renal pathology and surgical pathology. Dr Akhtar has published more than 200 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals.
