Dr. Stewart is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and Otorhinolaryngologist-in-Chief at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. He received a B.E. degree summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University, and his M.D. from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed residency training in General Surgery and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, and received his M.P.H. degree from the University of Texas School of Public Health. Dr. Stewart joined the Otolaryngology faculty at Baylor College of Medicine after residency training, where he served as Associate Professor and Director of Residency Education in the Department, Chief of Service at Ben Taub General Hospital, and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs for the College, before coming to Weill Cornell.
Dr. Stewart's clinical practice is general otolaryngology, and he has particular interest in nose and sinus disease, sleep breathing disorders, and head and neck trauma. He is the author of a textbook on head, face and neck trauma, as well as more than 20 book chapters and 90 peer-reviewed publications. He is also the Associate Editor of the American Journal of Rhinology, and serves on the Editorial Board of the Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and of ENToday. He is currently the President of the Society of University Otolaryngologist-Head and Neck Surgeons, and also serves as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Association of Academic Departments of Oto-HNS. He is a Director of the American Board of Otolaryngology.
Dr. Stewart's research interest is in outcomes and quality of life research, and he has received research funding from the NIH and AHRQ among others.
Dr. Stewart has received many awards and honors, including the Fulbright and Jaworski Faculty Excellence Award while at Baylor College of Medicine, the Distinguished Service Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the Houston Distinguished Surgeon Award from AORN, and the Schvey Award for Teaching from the Columbia/Weill Cornell residents. He is listed in Best Doctors in America, Marquis Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and listed in Best Doctors in New York by Castle Connolly and New York Magazine.
