The Neurovascular Ultrasound Laboratory uses state-of-the art equipment to provide comprehensive assessments of blood flow to the brain. Carotid and Transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasound studies are performed to evaluate the carotid, vertebral, and intracranial arteries for problems resulting from processes such as atherosclerosis, vasculitis and vasospasm. TCD is also used to screen patients for patent foramen ovale and other cardiac or pulmonary shunts that can increase the risk of stroke. These non-invasive ultrasound studies are performed by highly qualified and experienced technologists and interpreted by neurologists with special expertise in stroke and neurovascular ultrasound.
