Pediatric Dermatology specializes in the evaluation and management of common and uncommon cutaneous problems for children, birth to 18 years of age. Affecting infants, children and adolescents, pediatric dermatologists recocognize the unique developmental and physiologic aspects of the this population, and design treatment regimen specific to their developmental and physical needs. Specialized care of common skin problems such as acne, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, bullous diseases, molluscum contagiosum, hemangiomas, herpes simplex, tinea, port wine stains, warts, and skin infections is available as well as expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of complex and unusual skin diseases such as milaria, , hidradenitis, impetigo.
The pediatric dermatology unit places a strong emphasis on educating children and their families about skin disease, and the prevention of permanent cosmetic disability is stressed.
