Welcome to the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine

Rehabilitation Medicine (physiatry) is the medical specialty that addresses the care of patients whose performance has been impaired by injury or disease. Physiatrists provide in-depth evaluation and treatment to individuals with pain and/or physical disability. Our physicians have the clinical expertise to organize and integrate a multi-disciplinary program of rehabilitation services.

The Rehabilitation Medicine Service at NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center offers comprehensive physical medicine and rehabilitation services for both inpatients and outpatients. Our services include consultation in our outpatient practice on the 16th floor of the Baker Pavilion. We also oversee a consultation service for inpatients in the Greenberg Pavilion. Our physiatrists provide consultation to other hospital services and treat neurological, neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders that limit mobility and performance. Individual disorders include back and neck pain, stroke, brain injury, rheumatic diseases, degenerative joint diseases, spinal cord injuries, pediatric disabilities, causalgia, movement disorders, and cancer rehabilitation.

For persons with moderate to severe physical limitations, comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation is available in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Center on the 17th floor of the Baker Pavilion. Our physiatrists direct a team of rehabilitation professionals that includes occupational therapists, physical therapists, recreational therapists, rehabilitation nurses, social workers and speech-language pathologists.
