Richard S. Muchnick, M.D. is in the private practice of ophthalmology in Manhattan specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of strabismus. He is Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medical College and Associate Attending Ophthalmologist of New York?Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Muchnick received an A.B. with Honors from Cornell University and M.D. from Cornell University Medical College where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and where he received the Coryell Prize in Surgery.
Following medical school, he served as an intern in medicine and as a resident and then chief resident in ophthalmology at The New York Hospital. Dr. Muchnick also served for two years in the U.S. Public Health Service. He completed his postgraduate training with fellowships at the University of California at San Francisco and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital.
Dr. Muchnick has contributed to the ophthalmic literature on a variety of topics in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. He has also written several chapters for books.
He has been elected to membership in numerous medical societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the International Strabismological Association and
The American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Muchnick is a past president of the Greater New York Society for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. He is the recipient of The McLean Medal, one of the most prestigious awards in American ophthalmology, for "outstanding teaching and clinical contributions to ophthalmology". He has trained well over 100 ophthalmologists.
