Dr. Yantiss? recent research efforts have focused on identifying molecular alterations underlying early neoplasia in the gastrointestinal tract, particularly in the colorectum. Some of her current projects include elucidating the roles of prostaglandin metabolism and helix-loop-helix proteins, such as inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (id-1), in inflammatory bowel disease and inflammation-induced carcinogenesis; the detection of early genetic events in serrated colorectal polyps; and the evaluation of micro-RNA species expression in sporadic and inflammation-induced colorectal carcinomas. Many of these endeavors have necessitated development of close collaborations with investigators in other departments both within Weill Cornell Medical College and outside our institution. As a result, Dr. Yantiss has forged relationships with a number of leaders in basic science research, including Dr. Andrew Dannenberg of Weill Cornell Medical College, Dr. Robert Benezra of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Dr. Kenneth Simpson of Cornell University-Ithaca, Dr. Eva Szabo of the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute, as well as investigators in Korea, India, and Japan.
