Dr. Acharya is a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist interested in using more effective treatment to improve care for patients with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, diagnosis and treatment of clotting problems in children.
Her specific interests include the investigation of novel diagnostic tools for the detection of early joint disease associated with hemophilia. In the laboratory, her interests include investigating the role of angiogenesis (new vessel formation) in hemophilic joint disease and to establish a laboratory marker for diagnosis of early hemophilic joint disease.
Dr. Acharya is the recipient of the Hemophilia Clinical Scientists Development Grant from the Hemophilia of Georgia Foundation to study the role of angiogenesis in hemophilic joint disease. She is also involved in the diagnosis (both prenatal and postnatal) counseling and management of Pediatric Sickle Cell Disease and other general pediatric hematological problems.
